The 2008 Fiber Surface Conference is scheduled for February 12 & 13. This will be the eighth meeting in our continuing series for fiber producers, finish suppliers and others dealing with issues relating to fiber surface properties and modifications. Please reserve the dates and plan to attend.

Where: Sheraton Airport Plaza, Charlotte, NC
When: Tues, February 12 and Wednesday, February 13, 2008

As we have in the past, the meeting will begin the afternoon of the 12th and continue through lunch on the 13th.  However, the format of the 2008 conference will diverge from that of past conferences in that the entire conference will have a single focus - sustainability.  Everyone has heard the words, "green", environmentally friendly, conservation, reducing the carbon footprint, and sustainability. As the marketplace embraces the "earth friendly initiative", it is necessary for the supply chain, service providers, etc, to understand the direction the market is headed and how to participate and be successful.

The 2008 conference will also differ in that it will be jointly sponsored by the Fiber Surface Group and the Synthetic Yarn and Fiber Association (SYFA).  Our two groups have worked together to obtain speakers and administer the conference.

The Conference theme is "Sustainable Is Attainable: Redesigning the Textile Industry".

We have secured some of the major market leaders for sustainability, representing the various segments of the marketplace.  We are particularly pleased to have as the keynote address, Ray Anderson, Chairman of Interface Inc.  A New York Times article earlier this year states “Mr. Anderson has turned into perhaps the leading corporate evangelist for sustainability.” (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/22/science/earth/22ander.html)  Along with Mr. Anderson, there will be speakers from Ford Motor Company, Patagonia, Steelcase, Wal-Mart, Inc. and Dow Jones, just to name a few.

Opportunities also exist for a limited number of corporate sponsors for the conference and for tabletop exhibits and demonstrations of programs and products relevant to the theme of the conference.  For information on sponsorships and tabletop demonstrations please contact Kim Pettit at SYFA (704- 824-3522 or kpettit@thesyfa.org) or Bob Barker at AFMA (727-772-1685 or rbarker@afma.org).

A complete agenda and conference registration will be distributed in the next few weeks. (a preliminary agenda can be found here) Due to the significance of this conference and the excellent list of speakers, we encourage you to register early, as we anticipate the conference to fill quickly and space may become limited as the conference dates approach.

To secure your space prior to the formal announcement you may contact Kim Pettit at the SYFA office:  (704) 824-3522 or kpettit@thesyfa.org.
