Wetekam Monofilaments US Inc. established in USA

Spartanburg SC February 15, 2010

The German producer of monofilaments and artificial grass yarns, Dr. Karl Wetekam & Co. KG, Melsungen, Germany, a nearly 50 year old family owned company, has established a presence in the North American market with the creation of Wetekam Monofilaments US Inc., Spartanburg SC.  Ten monofilament lines were purchased from Teijin Monofilament US, Inc. which was closed in Q4 2009.

The German company produces technical monofilaments from polyester (PET.PBT and co-PET), polypropylene, polyethylene and polyamides 6, 6.6, 6.10, 6.12, and 12. The second major market is artificial grass yarns that are based on different polymers and polymer blends. These yarns can be produced in different colors, shapes and are available texturized or twisted, to fulfil customer requirements.

Initially, Wetekam Monofilament US Inc. has begun to import products from Germany. Production equipment will be installed to provide a US manufacturing base to serve the North American technical monofilament and artificial grass markets where a high level of quality, service and technical expertise are required. Wetekam Monofilaments US will be led by two monofilament industry veterans, Michelle Diaz (mdiaz@monofilaments.com) and Bruce Stroupe (bstroupe@monofilaments.com), both formerly of Teijin Monofilaments US Inc in Spartanburg SC.
